The RG House, located in Teresina, Brazil, is a 310sqm residence that stands out for its unique composition of lines on the west, east, and south facades. These lines, made of composite aluminum painted in black, serve a dual purpose. They not only add to the aesthetic appeal of the house but also function as a brise soleil, reducing the incidence of sunlight and heat inside the residence. This is particularly beneficial given the extreme hot temperatures of northeastern Brazil. LED profiles adapted to the brise soleil further enhance the design, making it easy for observers to read the design at night.
The house is spread across two floors. The ground floor comprises the garage, living room, dining room integrated with a gourmet space and a swimming pool, kitchen, guest bedroom, and service area. The second floor houses two suites and a master bedroom. The color palette primarily includes black and grey, with touches of wooden tones for the floors and blue for the decoration to provide contrast and vibrancy.
The walls of the RG House were constructed using ceramic bricks, while the structure was made using concrete. The roof was made using thermo-acoustic aluminum tiles. The rest of the composition uses black aluminum profiles, transparent glass panels, and composite aluminum brise soleil. The edification measures 11.35m x 19m x 7.5m.
One of the key challenges during the design process was to overcome the climate challenges of the region, marked by high temperatures and strong solar incidence. The clients wanted an integration between the indoors and outdoors, which was achieved by using massive glass panels. However, this solution is not typically recommended in the region due to the extreme heat inside the edification. The design team addressed this challenge by designing a massive aluminum frame that could protect the house from insulation without blocking the view from inside the house.
The RG House is not just a house with an unusual design. It is a house that showcases a dynamic composition with lots of movement. The large aluminum brise soleil forms a contemporary facade that protects the internal environments from intense luminosity and heat during the day. The integration of exterior and interior is made by big glass panels. Stunning environments and double-height ceilings also characterize the architecture of this project. Environmentally friendly solutions such as photovoltaic panels for solar energy were used to give the finishing touches.
This unique design has not gone unnoticed. The RG House was awarded Silver in A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2022. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
